We’ve all seen the buzz around electric bikes these days, especially when traveling in an RV or on road trips. But what about getting a folding bike for camping?
3 Big Advantages of Foldable Bikes:
1. Foldable Bikes Save Space: If you camp in a smaller vehicle, such as a van or car, an electric bike can take up a lot of space. Alternatively, you can store it on the back of your vehicle. But then, you need to buy a rack and worry about theft.
2. Folding Bikes Weigh Less: In addition, electric bikes tend to weigh more – about twice as heavy as a non-motorized version. Not to mention, they cost more too.
3. They Also Cost Less: In fact, with all of the money and space you can save, you can purchase 2 folding bikes vs 1 electric bike. That’s why I decided to try out the Zizzo Campo.
The $300-ish economical price, compact size and portability were the key selling points I needed for car camping. I prefer the more versatile features over having a motor because I plan to use it for short trips and exercise.
On the other hand, if you want a 2-wheeler for longer excursions, hills or a more leisurely ride, you may want to get a motorized bike instead.
Actually, when comparing different models, I discovered that you can get a foldable e-bike too!)
How to Fold a Foldable Bike:
This bike arrives folded, so you quickly see how is assembles when you unfold it. It involves just a few steps, which only take about 30 seconds.
Consequently, I found the Zizzo really convenient to assemble and collapse. Plus, the pedals fold flat to save even more space. And, the seat post acts as a tripod, so the collapsed frame doesn’t fall over.
Although some people complain about the seat being uncomfortable, I found the wide saddle comfortable enough. Considering I don’t plan on riding it for long periods, I think it will work just fine. That said, I can easily switch it out for an upgraded seat should I change my mind. No big deal.
